Brasher Law Firm Partner Nishi Kothari Earns Selection to New Texas Board of Legal Specialization List

Ms. Kothari joins first group of attorneys newly certified in insurance law

BEAUMONT, Texas – Brasher Law Firm partner Nishi Kothari has joined the ranks of attorneys who have been added to the inaugural Texas Board of Legal Specialization list of certified insurance law attorneys.

The standards for attorney certification are established by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization after approval of the Supreme Court of Texas. Factors include character and fitness of the attorney, professional accomplishments, skill and ability and a high level of demonstrable knowledge in the specialty.

Other requirements include:

  • Must have practiced law full time for at least five years as an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas.
  • At least three years of Texas insurance law experience with a yearly minimum of 30% substantial involvement in insurance law matters.
  • Must provide five qualified, vetted references from lawyers in the practice area.
  • Must complete 60 hours of board-approved continuing legal education in insurance law.
  • Must pass a comprehensive six-hour examination in insurance law.

Certification lasts for five years before attorneys must undergo recertification.

“There were only 51 other attorneys from across the state who made the cut to become board certified in insurance law, and I’m proud to be among those who made it,” said Ms. Kothari. “The law firm and lawyer you choose is important. This recognition also helps to cement our firm’s reputation as experts in this area of practice.” This is evident in the work the firm has done, such as most recently, securing a win at the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for its client, the Sugartown United Pentecostal Church, Inc. against its insurance company, and cementing an over $500,000 judgment.

Ms. Kothari has secured multiple other honors and awards for her work. This includes being named to Texas Super Lawyers, “Lawdragon X,” a list of the country’s top 500 young lawyers in America and the “Lawyers of Color Hot List” for 2023.

She is also the current Vice President of Advocacy for the South Asian Bar Association of North America, which has roughly 10,000 members and more than 30 chapters.
